What Does EWCA Do?
Prepares and submits to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism draft policies and laws relating to the development and sustainable utilization of wildlife resources, and follow up the implementation of same upon approval by the Government.
Develops and administers wildlife conservation areas established under it and controls illegal activities committed in relation thereto.
Issues hunting permits to foreign tourists.
Issues permits for the establishment of hotels, campsites, lodges and other services in wildlife conservation areas.
Issues permits and health certificates to export and import any wildlife or wildlife products.
Controls the utilization of wildlife products to ensure its compliance with the objectives of the permit, and makes impact assessments in relation thereto.
Ensures that wildlife conservation areas are established in accordance with international standards with a view to facilitating their registration by the World Conservation Union, and follows up their administration accordingly
Establishes international relations with all bodies having the potential of providing technical and other assistance for wildlife conservation.
Ensures the implementation of treaties to which Ethiopia is a party; compiles and submits periodical reports to the concerned international institutions.
Represents the Government in any international meetings and conferences relating to wildlife.
Conducts research and training programs and collects, processes and provides to users up to date information on the conservation, development and utilization of wildlife.
Provides support to regions with respect to the development and sustainable utilization of wildlife, delegate its powers and duties to other federal and regional government organs where necessary
Prevents and controls incidents of wildlife diseases within or outside of conservation areas.
Supervises wildlife conservation areas administered by private investors in accordance with concession agreements entered into with the Federal Government’
Charges fees for the services it renders in accordance with the rate approved by the Government.
